National Bureau of Investigation digs deeper into death of mayor’s son

LUCENA City --  After filing a double murder case against three policemen on the death of a Quezon mayor’s son and his companion, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is now digging deeper to find out the  real motive behind the alleged killing.

NBI-Quezon chief Dominador Villanueva said they need to establish not only the guilt of former Tayabas City police station commander Supt. Mark Joseph Laygo and his men PO3 Robert Legazpi and PO2 Lonald Sumalpong but also their motive on their act.

“In handling cases like this, the investigators need to determine not only if their suspect did the crime. They should also find out why he did it”, said Villanueva, a multi-awarded senior agent of the bureau.

He said the victims Christian Gayeta, 21 and Christian Manalo, 38, are son and most trusted aide, respectively, of Sariaya Mayor Marcelo Gayeta.

“That’s why we are looking on the possibility that their killing might have something to do with the mayor’s being a politician, a leader and a reelectionist candidate,”
said Villanueva.

Villanueva said they already have 15 witnesses.
