Notorious NPA leader killed in Northern Samar shootout

A notorious leader of New Peoples’Army (NPA) was killed in an encounter with government forces the other day in Northern Samar.

This was confirmed by Maj. Gen. Pio Q. Diñoso III, commander of 8th Infantry Division (ID) of Philippine Army.

Pio identified the slain terrorist as Salvador Nordan alias Badok/Gahi, Communist NPA leader, Sub-Regional Operational Command (SROC) EMPORIUM.

Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo showed that the encounter occurred at around 10:10 a.m. at Bgy. Guba, Catarman , Northern Samar.

Initial investigation showed that elements of 803rd Infantry Brigade and Northern Samar Police Provincial Office went to the area to confirm report that an armed group was conducting extortion at the said barangay.

Upon reaching the place, a firefight immediately occurred and lasted for several minutes and resulted in the killing of the suspect.

Recovered from his possession were one Cal .45 pistol with ammunition and subversive documents with high intelligence value which includes lists containing names of individuals providing support to the terrorist CPP-NPA in Northern Samar.

Record showed that Nordan was facing a string of criminal charges, mostly murder and robbery cases in Northern Samar.

“We are thankful for the trust and confidence of the communities for the information to locate the hideouts of Salvador Nordan in Bgy. Malvar, Salvacion, Guba, and San Julian, all of Catarman, Northern Samar. This only shows that they were already tired of the terroristic activities these NPA members have caused not only to the military but also to the helpless civilians,” Col. Zosimo A. Oliveros, Commander of 803rd Infantry Brigade said.
