NPA leader killed, minor rescued

A NOTORIOUS leader of New Peoples'Army (NPA) was killed while a minor was rescued in a series of operations in Agusan del Norte.

This was confirmed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Eastern Mindanao Command ( Eastmincom) spokesperson Lt.Col. Ezra Balagtey.

Balagtey identified the NPA leader as Kevin Caballero alias Banjo, a known Vice Leader of NPA group being monitored in the area.

Balagtey said government forces were conducting patrol operation at aroubd 11:40 am at Bgy Bangayann Kicharo, Agusan del Norte on Tuesday when they encountered the group of Caballero. firefight occured and resulted in the killing of the NPA leader.
Recovered from his possession were one M4 rifle with an attached M203 grenade launcher, subversive documents, and one landmine switch kit.

Balagtey saud the same forces encountered more or less 20 NPAs at around 5:30 am Tuesday at Brgy. Bangayan, which resulted in the discovery of an NPA hideout, capture of three suspected NPA members and the rescue of a 9-year old boy.
Another 15-minute skirmish with the NPAs followed at about 3 pm as the troops conducted a clearing operation, which led to the seizure of one AK47 rifle.

The rescued minor was turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development.
