NPA member yield in Zambo Sur amid COVID-19 threats

AN active New People’s Army member in Zamboanga del Sur surrendered to local police authorities amid threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in the province and other parts of Western Mindanao where police are implementing a strict community quarantine, Police Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier General Froilan F. Quidilla announced yesterday.

Jimboy Adlit alias ‘Ka Bernie,’ a resident of Barangay Balonai in Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur an a member of an NPA squad operating in the municipality yielded to officials of the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office on Thursday, said the PRO9 director.

Quidilla said the NPA guerrilla also yielded an M-16 automatic rifle with a magazine containing eight live ammunition followng his surender which was made possible thru negotiations with local government, police and military officials led by Mayor Elmer Soronio and Midsalip Municipal Police Station chief, Captain Alexis Bahunsua.

Officers from the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office and the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion were also involved in the effort to convince Adlit to return to the mainstream of the society, he added.

Quidilla said Adlit will be enrolled in the Government’s Enhance Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and receive financial and livelihood assistance as well as access to government services including medical aid.

“I am encouraging the remaining active members of the NPA in the region to lay down their arms and return to the fold of the law. I assure them they will be getting full support from the government thru its E-CLIP program,” said the official.
