SEVEN vacuum-sealed plastic packets containing around 8.6 kilograms of suspected cocaine worth more than P40 million on Monday were found floating by a group of fishermen off Bagamanoc, Catanduanes.
Police Regional Office 5 director Chief Supt. Arnel Escobal said fishermen Marcel Benosa, 33; Danilo Villasana, 65; and Tirso Bandola, 47, all residents of Bgy. Bugao in Bagamanoc municipality, chanced upon a black fishnet containing the contraband with the ‘$ sign’ while fishing in the area at 1 p.m. on Monday.
Escobal said that the three immediately informed local village chief Evan Evangelista of their find.
All four later brought the drugs to the Bagamanoc Municipal Police Station prior to the turnover to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Last February 9, more than a kilo of suspected cocaine worth nearly P5.5 million floated in the waters of Bgy. Sula in Vinzons, Camarines Norte and were discovered by two local fishermen, who immediately reported their find to the police.
