COMBINED agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Police Regional Office 7 on Tuesday stormed a clandestine marijuana plantation in Danao City in Cebu province where they uprooted and destroyed an estimated P13 million worth of fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings, officials said yesterday.
Burned during the operation in Sitio Pulgason in Barangay Langusig in Danao City were an estimated 32,000 fully-grown marijuana plants. However, the target of the raid identified as Baristo Camaongay managed to escape arrest during the operation conducted by joint elements of the Danao City Police Station, the Cebu Police Provincial Office, the PDEA Regional Office 7 under Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva and the Naval Forces Central Command, said PRO7 director, Brigadier General Albert Ignatius D. Ferro.
Ferro said one member of the Danao City police met an accident during the conduct of the marijuana eradication drive. The officer accidentally fell off a waterfalls after hours of walking in the heavily-forested area and suffered injuries on his forehead and hand leading to his hospitalization.
Charges for violation of Section 16 or cultivation or culture of plants classified as dangerous drugs or are sources thereof under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Camaongay who was described as a ‘high-value target.’
