AGENTS of the Cordillera Police Regional Office this week overrun nine clandestine marijuana plantations in Tinglayan, Kalinga where they uprooted and burned over P80 million worth of fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings, Cordillera police director, Brigadier General R’win S. Pagkalinawan told the Journal Group yesterday.
Pagkalinawan said the plantation sites were found in Mt. Chumanchill in Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan municipality after hours of hiking by members of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office, the PRO Cordllera Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and Regional Mobile Force Battalion.
The Cordillera policemen were supported by agents from the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the conduct of the major marijuana eradication drive from Monday to Wednesday, the official said.
Pagkalinawan said that over 400,000 fully-grown marijuana plants and seedlings were burned on site while some samples were taken for evidentiary purpose. The official said that no arrests were made during the raid as the marijuana growers were believed to have fled on foot towards the heavily-forested area after spotting the advancing troopers
