THREE most wanted persons in the country are now in jail after being arrested in separate Philippine National Police Intelligence Group (PNP-IG)-led operations, a report to PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa said yesterday.

PNP-IG director, Brigadier Gen. Edgar S. Monsalve said that one of the three identified as Mario Valerio, a National Most Wanted Person with a P500,000 bounty on his head offered by the Department of Interior and Local Government  was arrested by Regional Intelligence 3 operatives under Colonel Nestor C. Babagay in Sitio Field Office, Barangay Bueno in Capas, Tarlac.

The suspect is the subject of a warrant of arrest for kidnapping-for-ransom issued by Judge Ofelia Pinto of the Angeles City Regional Trial Court Branch 60 on June 25, 2003 with no bail recommended and a theft case issued by Judge Nelsonia Ulat-Marrero of the La Trinidad, Benguet RTC on October 7, 1998.

Monsalve said that operatives of the Tarlac Provincial Intelligence Team under the RIU3 were aided by the Capas Municipal Police Station in tracking down the suspect after 17 years in hiding.

The two others were identified as Maricar Devocio, a woman wanted for qualified trafficking in person and  wanted murder suspect Redentor Basa. The official said that no bail has been recommended by the court for the temporary liberty of the two accused.

According to Monsalve, Devocio was arrested in a Regional Intelligence Unit 4-A-led operation in Barangay Bangbang in Los Baños, Laguna last Friday afternoon.

Judge Gregorio Velasquez of the Calamba City Regional Trial Court Branch 35 ordered the detention of the suspect with no bail recommended, he said.

Monsalve said that Devocio is listed as the Top 3 Regional Most Wanted Person in Calabarzon region and the no. 1 most wanted person in Los Baños municipality prior to her arrest.

On the other hand, Basa was arrested last Tuesday by members of the PNP-IG Intelligence  Security Operations Division and the RIU4-A in his hiding place in Quezon City.

The PNP-IG operatives were assisted by members of the Calauag Municipal Police Station in Laguna and the Armed Forces Headquarters Support Group in arresting the suspect.

Monsalve said the suspect was arrested on the basis of the warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Maria Chona Pulgar-Navarro of the Calauag, Quezon RTC Branch 63 with no bail recommended.

Basa is included in the list of the Department of Interior and Local Government’s top most wanted persons in Region 4-A and is the subject of a P140,000 bounty.
