AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Friday arrested a barangay ‘kagawad’ in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and three of his companions for transporting 510 boxes containing 10,920 Tanduay rhum bottles, PNP-CIDG director, Major General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said yesterday.
Arrested were Joel Saludares, a 31-year-old ‘kagawad’ of Bgy. Agutayan in Sta. Barbara municipality and van driver Rominic Suamen,31; and helpers Jophil Angelo, 27, and Janron Angelo,31.
According to Coronel, members of the CIDG Iloilo City Field Unit, with the assistance of officers from the PNP Highway Patrol Group and the local police accosted the four who were on board an Isuzu Elf van and a blue Isuzu truck past 12 noon Friday in Bgy. Agutayan.
The official said recovered inside the van were 110 boxes each containing 12 bottles of 750ml long neck Tanduay Rhum and 100 boxes each containing 24 bottles of 375ml Tanduay Rhum while found inside the truck were 300 boxes each containing 24 bottles of 375ml of the same rhum.
Coronel said the operation was conducted amid an order from Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. to fully enforce the enhanced community quarantine including the liquor ban in the entire province during the lockdown period.
The four will be facing appropriate criminal charges, he said.
Coronel also announced the arrest of a 20-year old sales clerk in Daet, Camarines Norte for selling overpriced alcohol during an entrapment operation last Thursday afternoon.
He said that Vanessa Ibesa was placed under arrest after she sold a 70 percent solution isopropyl alcohol for P700 to an undercover officer. Recovered during the operation were seven gallons of alcohol, an Order Slip and a marked P1,000 bill received by the suspect.
The CIDG said that the standard retail price of a gallon of alcohol is P520 only.
