Police trainee fired for mauling gf, 16

POLICE Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier General Jesus D. Cambay Jr. yesterday said he has ordered the dismissal of a police trainee who was arrested for mauling his 16-year-old girlfriend in Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte following an argument last July 22.

The PRO9 director’s directive means that trainee Joed Carba won’t be anymore allowed to join the ongoing On-the-Job-Training and Field Training Exercise for police trainees at the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office headquarters.

Cambay ordered Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Duruin, the training head of the Regional Training Unit 9 to subject Carba to termination procedure under the Philippine National Police Training Manual which imposes strict discipline on all police trainees.

“Police professionalism is one of my key thrusts as Western Mindanao police director and I am seeing to it that police officers and men who violate my policy will be disciplined,” he said.

The accused was arrested shortly after his girlfriend filed a complaint against him for physical abuse in relation to Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law before the Women and Childrne Protection Division of the Dipolog City Police Station.

An investigation showed that the suspect went to the victim’s apartment in Barangay Miputak in Dipolog City around 10 p.m. last July 22 and mauled her reportedly out of jealousy.

Local policemen tracked down and arrested the suspect who is now being held at the Dipolog City police lock-up facility facing criminal charges.

“The Police Regional Office 9 condemns any act inimical to public service which tends to degrade the prestige of the PNP organization. The PNP upholds the highest standard of discipline as implementors and not violators of law to gain the trust and confidence of every citizen,” the PRO9 said in a statement.
