POLICE Regional Office 10 director, Brigadier General Rolando B. Anduyan yesterday announced the arrest of two ‘high-value drug targets’ in Northern Mindanao, one of them a provincial jail guard in Marawi City during separate buy-bust operations in the region.
The official identified the two as Walid Nasser Usman, a 32-year old Marawi Provincial Jail personnel, and Gilyzar Melendrez, a company purchaser/driver and Sittic Aira Topaan, both residents of Marawi City.
According to Anduyan, members of the PRO10 Regional Drug Enforcement Unit moved to arrest Usman, a resident of Barangay Adapun Ali in Balo-I, Lanao del Norte after getting a tip from an informant that he would try to smuggle drugs on board a motorcycle from Iligan City to Bgy. Tampilong in Marawi City.
The PRO10 director said that around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, members of the PRO10 RDEU, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office put up checkpoints in the area to intercept the suspect who was reported to be driving an orange/black Yamaha Aerox.
Anduyan said that when accosted, the suspect, a known ‘HVT’ who has been under surveillance since last month yielded two knot-tied plastic packets containing some 200 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ wort P1.360 million. Also recovered from the suspect’s possession were his Lanao del Sur Provincial Jail identification card and driver’s license.
