THE Police Regional Office 12 went on full alert yesterday to ensure the safety of President Rodrigo Duterte who is set to visit General Santos City to distribute land titles to farmer-beneficiaries in the region.
The event coincided with a massive prayer-rally of supporters of the KAPA Community Ministry International Inc. which the President had ordered shut down for its alleged fake investment scheme.
PRO12 director Brigadier General Eliseo Rasco said all police forces in the region went on high alert to ensure there will be no untoward incident during the presidential visit and the KAPA prayer-rally.
The prayer rally was organized amid claims by KAPA supporters that there is nothing illegal in their “get-rich quick” scheme.
Duterte was scheduled to personally hand over yesterday land titles to selected beneficiaries of the government’s agrarian reform program.
Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones was expected to assist the President in the symbolic turnover of land titles to 13,000 beneficiaries in the region.
The President’s visit coincided with a prayer-rally of KAPA supporters-members at the Pedro Acharon Sports Complex, many of them coming from different parts of General Santos City and other neighboring provinces.
Rasco said they are taking all necessary security measures to ensure the protection of the President and his audience as well as those participating in the KAPA prayer-rally.
He said that although KAPA members have aired their intention to have a peaceful prayer-rally, police are guarding against some lawless groups that might take advantage of the situation.
Rasco said that all police forces in the region have been placed on standby to respond to any contingency. He said that they are also getting support from other public safety and law enforcement agencies as well as their “force multipliers” in the region.
