A TOP drug dealer in Central Mindanao region was killed in a gunbattle with undercover officers in Banga, South Cotabato late afternoon Monday, Police Regional Office 12 director, Brigadier General Alfred S. Corpus said yesterday.
The official identified the slain suspect as Francisco Lasin Jr. alias ‘Junjun, a 39-year old employee of the DOLE-Stanfilco who has been considered as a ‘high-value drug target’ before he was gunned down during the buy-bust operation in Purok Bonifacio, Barangay Barrio Cinco in Banga municipality at 4:45 p.m. Monday.
According to Corpus, combined operatives of the PRO12 Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and the Banga Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the local office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, conducted the sting.
He said while the entrapment operation was ongoing, the suspect sensed he was dealing with an undercover policeman after the latter handed him a marked P1,000 bill in exchange for one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu.
While the poseur was about to make the signal, the suspect pulled out a concealed firearm and tried to shoot the cop but missed. Back-up operatives returned fire killing Lasin on the spot.
Recovered from of the slain suspect were the marked P1,000 bill, a caliber .38 revolver with four ammunition and six plastic sachets containing the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ including the subject of the buy-bust.
Corpus said that the slain suspect is included in both President Duterte’s list as well as the Inter-Agency Drug Information Database where he has been categorized as a Level 1 HVT.
