A ranking official of the New Peoples’Army (NPA) was killed in a shootout with law enforcers and government troops the other day in North Cotabato.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)-Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) spokesman Lt.Colonel Ezra Balagtey identified the fatality as Juanita Gore Tacadao alias “Isay” or “Maring,” said to be the regional and logistics and finance head of the communist NPA’s Far South Mindanao Guerrilla Front.

Balagtey said Tacadao was killed in a shootout on Friday with security forces in North Cotabato on Friday, a military official said Saturday.

Accordingly, elements of 1002nd Infantry Brigade of the EastMinCom went to the hideout of Tacadao in Sitio South Lacobe Barangay Malabuan, Makilala, North Cotabato to serve a warrant of arrest against the NPA leader.

However, Tacadao’s men shot towards the team that triggered a five-minute exchange of fire that led to the killing of Tacadao.

Soldiers seized one M14 rifle, one caliber .38 pistol, one landmine, two blasting caps, and a detonating cord during the noon raid.

Hours later, security forces overran another hideout of Tacadao in Sitio Blazan, Barangay Malawanit of Magsaysay town in Davao Del Sur.

Soldiers seized one M16 rifle, one homemade 12 gauge shot gun,  one hand grenade, and 40mm ammunition; supplies, personal belongings, and subversive documents.
