AGENTS of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office on Tuesday solved the case of a 5-year old girl who was raped and thrown into a river in Calumpit municipality where she drowned following the arrest of her uncle who confessed to the gruesome crime, officials announced yesterday.
Bulacan police director, Colonel Chito G. Bersaluna, identified the suspect as Marvin Mengulio, a resident of Barangay San Miguel in Calumpit.
Bersaluna said the 23-year old Mengulio was arrested by members of the Calumpit Municipal Police Station led by Lt. Col. Gerardo Andaya following investigations they conducted on the killing of the victim whose body was found floating in Pampanga River around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The official said during questioning, the suspect broke down and confessed he was the one who raped his niece before pushing her into the river. The girl’s identity was withheld.
Bersaluna said the suspect told investigators that the victim was sleeping when he carried her near the river where he sexually molested her.
When the victim woke up and cried, the suspect claimed he panicked and pushed his niece in the river. Bersaluna said the victim’s mother told investigators that the suspect also molested the victim when she was still 3 years old but they did not file any complaint with the police.
The suspect is now being held at the Calumpit police jail facing charges for rape with homicide, the official said.
