THE National Bureau of Investigation on Monday filed criminal charges for murder and violation of Republic Act 10175 or the Anti-Cybercrime Act against the confessed boyfriend-killer of 16-year-old Christine Lee Silawan in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Police described the killing as a gruesome crime of passion.
The 17-year-old suspect identified only as alias “JC” was arrested in his house in Bgy. Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City by NBI Region 7 agents.
Recovered from the suspect were a shirt, shorts and ball cap believed being worn by the motorbike-riding teenager when he picked up Silawan hours before her body was found last March 11.
Forensic experts were asked to determine if the pieces of clothing had bloodstains of Silawan.
The NBI Region 7 theorized that the suspect killed Silawan out of jealousy.
Investigators are trying to find out if the suspect acted with discernment, a major factor that will trigger his trial as soon as he reaches the adult age.
The young suspect claimed he threw the murder weapon shortly after he realized that he had killed his girlfriend.
The NBI and the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office are checking if the suspect had companions when he killed the victim and dumped her body at an empty lot in Bgy. Bangkal.
The young suspect was detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Shelter for Children in Conflict with Law and Homeless Minors.
