SUSPECTED New People’s Army rebels on Friday evening abducted four men including a barangay captain and a militiaman in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro after threatening with harm the re-electionist mayor if he will fail to heed their demand for a ‘Permit-to-Campaign Fee,’ a Police Regional Office 4-B report said yesterday.
Snatched by the gunmen were Raymund Malupa, a member of the Citizen’s Armed Auxiliary, Peter de los Santos, chairman of Bgy. Mabuhay and his constituents Louie Mebdinille and Ricky Capillo.
PRO4-B director, Brigadier General Tomas C. Apolinario Jr. said that an investigation conducted by the Bansud Municipal Police Station showed that 10 heavily-armed NPA guerrillas, one of them an amazon went to nearby Bgy. Malo at 8 p.m. Friday and at gunpoint seized the four.
The suspects brought the four towards Sito Sawmill and Sitio Anaw, witnesses said. As of press time, there is still no word on the fate of the four.
However, Apolinario said that there were reports that de los Santos is a known supportter of incumbent Mayor Angel Saulong who is seeking reelection in the May 13 election.
Apolinario said they also discovered that last Thursday, the mayor received a text message from purported NPA rebels asking him to pay them their PTC or he and his supporters will be harmed.
The threat was reportedly sent while the mayor was holding a campaign rally in Bgy. Mabuhay.
