Relief order for Ecija top cop revoked

August 09, 2020

CABANATUAN City -- A relief order allegedly issued by Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia replacing Nueva Ecija provincial police director Col. Leon Victor  Rosete for unknown reasons was revoked by higher headquarters, it was learned yesterday.

Reports said Rosete, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy “Patnubay Class” of 1995, who was installed as the province's top cop of this city in October 2018, was set to be replaced by Col. Marvin Saro,   but his relief order was canceled on Saturday.

A Journal source said Sermonia’s relief order was immediately revoked by higher authorities at Camp Crame after Gov. Aurelio Umali allegedly intervened on Rosete's behalf.

Sermonia’s relief order was received by NEPPO on Friday evening but was reportedly canceled by Camp Crame around 3 p.m. on Saturday.

A NEPPO official yesterday confirmed this development to the Journal Group.

“May cancellation order and remain PD  (provincial director) of NEPPO si Col. Rosete. Wala po turnover of command na nangyari,” the official said in a text message.

It was not immediately known what prompted Sermonia to relieve Rosete, a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), from his post.

Earlier, the PRO3 chief also replaced six police commanders in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan for exceeding the 10-year tour-of-duty in their respective provinces.

The controversial move by  Sermonia was questioned by San Antonio Mayor Arvin Salonga,  who said it bypassed the local government units’ authority under the Local Government Code in appointing and replacing chiefs of police in their jurisdiction.
