POLICE Regional Office 7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M Sinas this week ordered rookie cops in Central Visayas to undergo another refresher course on the handling and care of their issued firearms in the aftermath of two separate cases of accidental firing involving local policemen this week.

The first incident involved a Cebu policeman who accidentally shot himself with his own pistol while the second involved a police sergeant who accidentally fired an M-16 automatic rifle while checking the firearm inside the Bohol Police Provincial Office headquarters.

Sinas said the refresher course on familiarization, handling and care of Philippine National Police-issued firearms to all PO1s in Central Visayas region has started in the wake of the nearly-fatal shooting of Police Officer 1 Socrates Bacalso of the Daanbantayan Municipal Police Station

“This refresher course will cover all members of the different Central Visayas city, provincial and municipal police offices. The idea is to familiarize them in the proper handling of their issued firearms and how to take good care of them,” the Central Visayas police director said.
