Special Jones, Isabela election peaceful

MONDAY’s special election in Barangay Dicamay Uno in Jones, Isabela ended up as generally peaceful with no untoward incident recorded from the start of the voting and until all Vote Counting Machines and other election paraphernalia had been safely transported to their destination, Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.

The man who supervised the security preparations for the special polls in Jones municipality, PRO2 Deputy Regional Director for Administration, Brig. Gen. John Cornelius A. Jambora said that at exactly 6 p.m. Monday, special voting in the area officially closed with no election-related incident.

After that, members of the Board of Election Inspector, escorted by Jones policemen led by Major Ruben Martinez transmitted the VCMs and other election paraphernalia to the Jones Municipal Board of Canvasses.

The special election was held after of an incident the other Monday wherein two suspects burned two VCMs and other poll materials  including some 200 unread ballots around at 6:47 a.m. on May 14.

The suspects in the arson attack identified as Manayo Rodel Pascual, a 34-year old farmer and Jayson Leaño, 27, are now in police custody in connection with the VCM burning. Pascual was arrested through hot pursuit operations while his companion Leaño surrendered to authorities. Criminal charges had been filed against the said suspects.

A total of 149 policemen secured the polling area on Monday.
