CANDELARIA, Quezon  -- An unidentified  assailant gunned down a jobless man, whom police suspected to be involved in illegal drugs trading, while driving his car along Maharlika Highway, Bgy. Malabanban Norte, here, on Sunday.

Town police commander, Col. Jezreel Calderon, said Teodoro Sadili Paz, 47, and resident of Bgy. Kinatihan 1, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Calderon said while Paz was driving his Toyota Corolla bearing plate number WCY563 at around 4 p.m., when the lone gun man armed with a cal.45 pistol suddenly appeared from behind and shot the victim several times, hitting him in different parts of the body.

Due to multiple fatal wounds, he said Paz died instantly.

Scene of Crime Officers who processed the crime scene recovered 15 empty shells and 4 fired bullets for cal. 45 pistol outside the car, a heat-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and two magazines for the same caliber loaded with 12 live bullets were found inside the vehicle.

Calderon said they are looking into possibility that the killing has something to do with Paz’ alleged involvement in illegal drug syndicate as revealed by some arrested drug suspects during tactical interrogation.

“Sa Cavite daw nanggagaling ang drug supply ni Paz na itinutulak dito sa Candelaria ng kanyang mga tao na ang ilan sa kanila ay nahuli na namin”, said Calderon.

He added that despite being jobless, Paz was regularly seen gambling at the cockpit.

“Wala siyang hanapbuhay pero palagi sa sabungan at nakakapusta ng malaki”, he said.

It was also learned that police arrested Paz for illegal possession of firearm on August 5, 2019 but was eventually ordered released for further investigation by the investigating fiscal.
