LUPAO, Nueva Ecija -- At least P1.6-million worth of cash and jewelry were believed carted away in a pawnshop robbery staged by suspected members of so-called “Termite Gang” here last Wednesday.
Robbed was the C & D Pawnshop located at Bgy. Poblacion North, said Police Capt. Lawrence D. Lira, town police head.
The heist was discovered when the said pawnshop opened at 8:30 a.m.
Lira said Evelyn Andres, 40, of Bgy. San Antonio Este, an employee, told them that when she opened the storage room where their vault is located, she saw certain important documents scattered on the floor.
She also smelled a foul odor emanating from the inside believed to be coming from a canal. And upon checking, she saw an excavated manhole on the floor and their vault was cut opened using acetylene torch, said Lira.
According to Lira, found missing inside the vault were certain documents, several pieces of pawned jewelry, and cash money, all amounting to P1.6-million.
He said they are still investigating the robbery incident.
