Tesda-Basilan director arrested for IED possession

SECURITY agents yesterday arrested the head of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Basilan for illegal possession of improvised explosive devices.

Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director Maj. Gen. Amador Corpus identified the suspect as Muida Hataman, the TESDA provincial director in Basilan.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Regional Force Unit 9 chief Col. Tom Tuzon said Hataman is the wife of Abu Sayyaf sub-commander Radzmir Janatul who is operating in Basilan with Abu Sayyaf Group commander Furuji Indama.

Hataman was arrested in her house in Bgy. San Rafael in Isabela City, Basilan by a team of CIDG Region 9, local police and military operatives.

Officers who were armed with an alias search warrant for illegal possession of explosives raided the house of Hataman at 5:45 a.m. yesterday.

The suspect was placed under arrest after authorities recovered one electric blasting cap, one 9-volt battery, one 40mm protective, one 766mm projectile with a corroder protruding wire, a hand-held radio, four mobile phones and two laptop computers.

The TESDA official was immediately taken to the CIDG 9 headquarters in Zamboanga City for investigation shortly after the raid.

Tuzon said Hataman will be facing charges for illegal possession of explosives.
