TF vs AFS activated in Ecija

October 16, 2019

PALAYAN CITY – Amid the continuing threat posed by the dreaded African swine fever (ASF) in Central Luzon, Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio M. Umali has activated a provincial task force that will strictly monitor and intensify putting up of safety protocols to guard against the entry of ASF in the province.

At the same time, Umali allayed fears of local consumers about the ASF scare, saying pork meat in the province, including other meat products such as the renowned “garlic longganiza” of Cabanatuan, is safe to eat because the province is still “ASF-free.”

Gov. Umali revealed this during a talk with Drs. Jayson De Guzman and Romulo Parayao, officers of the Swine Practitioners and Producers Association of Nueva Ecija (SPPANE) in his Teleradyo program dubbed “Usapang MAlasakit sa LIpunan (UMALI)” with co-anchor, provincial administrator Atty. Alejandro Abesamis and guests Vice Gov. Emmanuel Antonio Umali, and former senior board member Rommel Padilla.

To further stress his point that Nueva Ecija is a AFS-free province, Umali called for an immediate holding of a boodle fight among local and agriculture officials, swine industry stakeholders, hog raisers and retailers, including consumers where roasted pig (lechon) and other pork dishes such as adobo will be served.

During the program, the governor also directed all barangay officials to conduct an immediate and actual inventory of existing backyard piggery farms for easy monitoring and proper dissemination of information related to the ASF scare.

“Importante ang inventory, malaman natin kung ilan ang nandito kung saan-saan para matukoy natin, mabigyan ng inpormasyon at matugunan natin kaagad kung anuman ang problema,” said Umali.
