Tighter police security preps ordered amid Boy Scout drowning in Cagayan

POLICE Regional Office 2 director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario M. Espino yesterday ordered intensified security preparations in Cagayan Valley for the summer  and called on the public to exercise all precautionary measures designed by the government to keep the public safe.

The Cagayan Valley police director issued the advisory in the wake of an incident in Ballesteros, Cagayan where a Grade 6 student attending Junior-Senior Scout Jamboree accidentally drowned in a lagoon.

He said  the incident should serve as warning to the public especially to parents, guardians and even school authorities.

Espino further advised the public especially those who are planning to travel to different tourist destinations in the region this summer to always keep safe and consider precautionary measures that will keep them from harm.

The official said he has ordered all Cagayan Valley police forces to enhance  security  along major roads and other thoroughfares as well as different tourist destinations specifically churches and beaches which are expected to be swamped by visitors this summer period.

Espino said he wants increased police foot and mobile patrols in the region where Route Safety Marshals will be deployed and Police Assistance Hubs will be established during the summer vacation.

Last March 10, tragedy struck a boy scout jamboree in Barangay Zitangan in Ballesteros, Cagayan after 12-year old Vince Lucina, a resident of Bgy. Iraga, Solana municipality drowned in a lagoon.

The victim died while being taken to the Ballesteros District Hospital.
