THE Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing, the New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), suffered another major setback in the Visayas with the arrest of seven of its top-ranking leaders that includes its top military commander and the head of its National Finance Commission.
According to the Philippine Army, arrested on Saturday, February 8, 2020, were couples, Rey Camacho and his wife, Carmelita, who were nabbed in Bgy. Tulang, Getafe, Bohol by combined police and military operatives.
Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division commander, B/Gen. Eric Vinoya, in a message, said that Camacho, who goes by the aliases, ‘Jeboy,’ ‘Teddy,’ ‘Chad’ and ‘Val,’ is formerly the NPA regional military commander for Central Visayas before he was transferred to join his wife, Carmelita, in the NFC, the body in charge of gathering funds for the armed communist movement.
The two has a pending warrant of arrest for murder issued by the Tagbilaran City Regional Trial Court. Additional charges are set to be filed against them after the arresting team claimed they also recovered from the couple “three handguns with ammunition, hand grenades, components for improvised explosives and subversive documents of great intelligence value.”
On Friday, authorities also announced the arrest in Tacloban City of five more alleged ranking officials of the CPP-NPA, namely:
Frenchie Mae Castro Cumpio, 20; Marielle Alvez Domequil, 22; Alexander Philip Dizon Abinguna, 24; Marissa Abayare Cabaljao, 33; and, Mira Dalla Destura Legion, 21.
The five were arrested in the course of the simultaneous serving of a search warrant on several houses in Bgy. 96 and Bgy. 77 in Tacloban City, where the raiding teams allegedly found pistols and rifles with ammunitions, components for the making of explosives, a communist flag and cash money amounting to more than P500,000.
All those arrested are allegedly members of the ‘Regional White Areas Committee’ (RWAC) operating in Eastern Visayas with Cumpio, alias ‘Pen,’ as the regional committee secretary.
Domequil, alias ‘Maye’ is allegedly using the ‘Rural Missionaries of the Philippines’ (RMP) as her front organization in her capacity as RMP “finance officer.”
Abinguna, alias ‘Chakoy,’ is allegedly using his
