CABANATUAN CITY -- A 55-year-old businessman was gunned down by unidentified armed men while driving his Sports Utility Vehicle here last Wednesday night.
The shooting was perpetrated at the Central Terminal in Bgy. D. S. Garcia at 7:10 p.m. amid the implementation of the nationwide gun ban due to the upcoming May midterm polls next month.
Lt. Col. Ponciano Zafra, city police head identified the slain trader as Dennis Scotch Hernandez, of Lot 4, Block 16, Melencio Extension, Bgy. Kapitan Pepe Subdivision, this city.
Investigation showed the victim was driving his white Toyota Land Cruiser with plate number SAN-31 when unidentified suspects suddenly peppered his vehicle with bullets.
The victim, who was hit in different parts of the body, was rushed to the nearby Immaculate Conception Medical Center but was declared dead-on-arrival by the attending physicians.
Zafra said they are still determining the possible motive for the killing as it came more than a month before the holding of the May 13 midterm elections.
Reports said the slain victim, a self-made businessman was hailed as a role model by the Department of Trade and Industry in 2015.
