Trafficking victim rescued

A 36-year-old woman believed to be a victim of human trafficking was rescued by members of the Turtle Island Municipal Police Station and the Women and Children Protection Center-Mindanao Field Untit along the island shoreline early morning Wednesday, officials said yesterday.

The woman whose name was withheld was believed to be taken to Sandakan, Malaysia by a speedboat until she was found at the shorelines of Poblacion Taganak in Turtle Islands at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. An initial investigation showed that the victim is a resident of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.

The victim will be turned over to the custody of the WCPC-MFU upon the availability of a vessel, said Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office director, Chief Superintendent Graciano J. Mijares.
