Troops kill 2 Abu Sayyaf Group bandits

TWO members of Abu Sayyaf Group including a sub-leader who was said to be the last ASG member of the group involved in the 2000 Sipadan hostage crisis were killed in an encounter with government forces the other day in Talipao, Sulu.

The ASG sub leader was identified as Angah Adjih, one of the bandits who seized 21 hostages from the dive resort island of Sipadan Malaysia on April 23, 2000.

Another bandit who was killed in the Talipao encounter was identified as Sarih Edris.

Recovered from the encounter site were an M14 rifle, an M16 rifle, M203 grenade launcher, several magazines and ammunition and personal belongings

Over in Maguindanao, a drug personality was killed while two cops were wounded in a buy bust operation the other night.

The fatality was identified as Thong Sambulawan  Maido, 40, a known drug personality in the area.

Taken to the Birhen Sa Regla Hospital, Tulunan, North Cotabato for medical treatment were PO2 Winston Arellano and PO1 Jefrey Banzon, both assigned at Datu Paglas, Municipal Police Station.

Reports reaching Camp Crame said the incident occurred at around 6 p.m. at Barangay Lipao, Datu Paglas, Maguindanao.

Elements of Datu Paglas MPS conducted a buy- bust operation against the suspect following a tip that the latter was involved in illegal drug trade in the province.

During the operation, the suspect sensed that he was negotiating with cops so he immediately took his gun and fired at the team,  prompting the cops to return fire and kill the suspect instantly.

Recovered from the suspect were one caliber .45 pistol, 4 heat sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, three cellular phones, one Honda motorcycle and  buy-bust money amounting to P500.
