Troops recover New Peoples’ Army firearms after clash

GOVERNMENT troops recovered firearms and war materials shortly after an encounter with suspected members of New Peoples’ Army (NPA) yesterday morning in Negros Oriental.

This was confirmed by Capt. Khadaffy A. Tawantawan.

Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo showed that the encounter occured at around 4:50 a.m. at Barangay Tacpao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Tawantawan said elements of 94th Infantry Battalion under 302nd Brigade were conducting patrol operation in the area when they encountered the rebels.

The firefight lasted for 15 minutes until the rebels fled towards an unknown direction.

Troops conducting clearing operation recovered war materials and firearms including Colt caliber 45 loaded with one magazine with nine rounds of ammunition; 200 rounds of M16 rifle ammunition; nine rounds of M14 rifle ammunition; nine rounds of AK 47 rifle ammunitions; 11 M16 rifle magazines; two AK47 rifle magazines; one commercial radio; watch and three NPA bull caps.

There was no casualty on the government side but on the enemy side bloodstains were found in the route of their withdrawal.

Troops are conducting pursuit and clearing operations in the area.
