Troops slay reb in clash

ONE suspected New People’s Army rebel was killed in a clash with patrolling Army soldiers at the boundary of Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental and Ayungon, Negros Oriental at 5 a.m. yesterday, a Police Regional Office 7 report said.

PRO7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas, said members of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion were on patrol at the boundary of Carol-an in Kabankalan City and Upper Carol-an in Ayungon municipality  when they encountered an estimated 15 heavily-armed NPA guerrillas.

Sinas said that initially, they got the report that soldiers recovered the body of an unidentified NPA gunmen, one M-16 automatic rifle, two bandoliers containing several live ammunition, two improvised explosive devices and suspected NPA documents at the scene.
