Village chief arrested for selling quarantine pass

POLICE on Sunday arrested a barangay captain in Marantao, Lanao del Sur accused of selling Home Quarantine Passes or HQPs being issued to local residents, a Bangsamoro Administrative Region Police Regional Office report said yesterday.

BAR police director Brig. Gen. Manuel Abu said Cassar Abinal, the chairman of Bgy. Mantapoli in Marantao municipality, was arrested at 3:50 p.m. on Sunday for allegedly selling HQPs to his constituents for P20 each.

The village chief was arrested right inside the Bgy. Mantapoli hall by members of the Marantao Municipal Police Station following a text-complaint from a concerned citizen.

The complaint was sent to the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office Intelligence Branch.

Acting on the information, officers went to the site to conduct an investigation. They arrested the barangay captain after they saw a sign at the wall which asks P20 for each QCP pass issued by the barangay.

“It was a clear violation of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año’s strict directive for the non-payment of the barangay pass,” said Abu.

The barangay captain is being held at the Marantao police station facing criminal and administrative charges.
