One of the country’s top 12 most wanted persons in the Philippine National Police’s list was arrested over the weekend in Barangay O’Donnel in Capas, Tarlac.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Rhodel O. Sermonia identified the arrested suspect as Mario Valerio, 54, resident of Concepcion town in Tarlac, who had been hiding from the law for about 20 years and was using a false name – Ruben Basa – to avoid arrest.
The suspect was issued a warrant by an Angeles City court in 2003 for kidnapping for ransom in violation of Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code with no bail recommended and another warrant from a Benguet court for theft in 1993.
The kidnapping for ransom case is docketed under Criminal Case Number 02-827 while the theft case is docketed under Criminal Case Number 98-CR-3160.
Valerio was arrested by combined elements of Capas police and Regional Intelligence Unit 3.
