PHILIPPINE National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) director Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo yesterday announced the arrest in a raid Tuesday afternoon of a barangay kagawad in Silay City, Negros Occidental for his alleged involvement in organized crime in the province.
The PNP-AKG director, in a report to PNP chief General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, identified the suspect as Remy Belandres, of Bgy. E. Lopez in Silay City.
Estomo said around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, PNP-AKG operatives, in coordination with the Silay City Municipal Police Station, raided the local government official’s residence based on a search warrant issued by Silay City Regional Trial Court Branch 6 Judge Leonardo Facultad Jr. dated July 30 for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.
Estomo said the raiding team led by Colonel Salvador Alacyang, of the AKG Visayas Field Unit, and the Iloilo-Bacolod AKG Satellite Office headed by Major Nestor Acebuche recovered a .45 pistol, one 12-gauge shotgun, two .45 magazines, 48 pieces of .45 live bullets, 24 pieces of shotgun bullets and P1,815,550 cash at Belandres’ house.
Estomo said the recovered money was turned over to Bgy. E. Lopez chairperson Menmia Gallego, who witnessed the search operation along with kagawadLorna Deonilla.
Estomo added that prior to the raid, Belandres was under surveillance after they were informed that he is a member of the “Otso Oros Gang” involved in robbery-holdup, cattle-rustling, gunrunning and gun-for-hire in Negros Occidental.
