RIZAL, Nueva Ecija -- A jobless woman who went to the house of a former municipal mayor to ask for financial assistance was nabbed shortly after stealing the official’s wallet containing money placed inside his pants’ pocket on Thursday afternoon here.
Arrested was Angelica Andres, 39, single, of General Tinio Street, Bgy. 2, Laur, Nueva Ecija.
She was nabbed in Bgy. Aduas Centro, Cabanatuan City shortly after stealing the wallet of former mayor Eladio Lapuz, 86, widower, of Poblacion Sur, this town.
According to Lapuz, his wallet contained P10,000 in cash, and his driver’s license and senior citizen card.
Police Major Herbert Ocumen, town police chief, said they were able to trace the suspect’s whereabouts through CCTV footages installed at the premises of the victim’s house.
Investigation showed the suspect arrived at the former mayor’s house at 3:30 p.m. aboard a Honda TMX tricycle.
She then went inside and requested for financial help from the former mayor.
At this juncture, however, she was able to sneak inside the room and steal Lapuz’ wallet placed inside his hanging pants.
After receiving the complaint, Ocumen said they did some back-tracking and were able to get the number and address of Mark Vincent Alejo, the driver of the alleged getaway tricycle in Bgy. Bakodbayan, Cabanatuan City, who said he was only hired for P300 by the suspect to ferry her to Rizal.
Ocumen said the driver then led the police to the suspect’s hideout in Bgy. Aduas Centro where she was subsequently arrested at around 8 p.m. Thursday.
