The government’s infrastructure projects under the “Build Build Build” program will support the country to bounce back from the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 crisis.
Bases Conversion and Development Authority BBB and chief executive officer Vivencio Dizon said the construction of these infrastructure projects would stimulate economic activities and create jobs for Filipinos.
Dizon said projects under the BBB program were halted during the enhanced community quarantine, which was extended until April 30.
“Projects were delayed for a month now. But we will normalize gradually and we will resume our ‘Build Build Build’ program,” he said.
Earlier, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged the government to continue its infrastructure program but prioritize projects that would improve agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
The government targets to spend over P1 trillion this year under the BBB program. More than 100 flagship projects are identified by the administration under the program.
The BCDA, together with the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Department of Transportation, are spearheading the rollout of projects under the infrastructure program.
As the Covid-19 pandemic has paralyzed some economic activities, including construction of vital infrastructure projects, BCDA and DPWH are currently leading the establishment of emergency patient care centers in the country.
