NOTWITHSTANDING its rookie-laden roster, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta aims to surpass its Final Four finish last year in the NCAA men's basketball tournament which blasts off on July 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Altas will parade nine newcomers, who came from different schools and recruited in Visayas and Mindanao, as they usher in a new era with the graduation of last season's MVP Prince Eze.
"Our main target first is to win every games, until the end of the double elims, second is to enter the Final Four," said second year Perpetual Help coach Frankie Lim.
Season 94 champion San Beda, Lyceum of the Philippines University and Letran are tipped to be Final Four contenders.
The Las Piñas-based squad is currently undergoing intense twice-a-day training inside the newly-renovated gym, which will definitely inspire the Altas to work harder.
Holdovers Edgar Charcos, Jielo Razon, Jasper Cuevas, Luke Sese, Tonton Peralta and Anton Tamayo will be the vital cogs for Perpetual Help.
Ben Adamos, a 6-foot-5 transferee from the Red Lions, will fill in a huge void left by Eze, while fellow newcomers Lean Martell and Lele Guissani will take over the spots left by AJ Coronel and Rom Mangalino, who both have graduated for the Altas.
Mario Barasi Jr., a 6-foot-7 rookie center from Far Eastern University-Diliman, will be Adamos' back-up in the middle, while Perpetual Help's prized recruits Jeff Egan from Bukidnon and Ramlee Lanoy from St. Francis of Assisi, are also expected to contribute.
La Salle-Zobel graduates Nathaniel Sevilla and Benedict Jomalesa, and Aldeo Lucero from Davao complete the Altas' roster.
Perpetual Help, which finished the eliminations with a 11-7 record in the eliminations before bowing to San Beda in the Final Four last year, competed in the recently-concluded PBA D-League tournament as part of its NCAA build-up.
"With the support of Perpetual community and Management and the team owner Boss Tony Tamayo and UPHSD president Anthony Tamayo, we will do our best to reach the elusive crown," said Lim.
