UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System Dalta extended its winning streak to three with a wire-to-wire  85-73 conquest of also-ran Jose Rizal University yesterday in the NCAA men's basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Altas scored the game's first 11 points before the Bombers were able to cut down the deficit to 36-40 at the break.

But Perpetual Help regrouped in the second half with Edgar Charcos steering the attack to score its eighth victory in 13 contests and gain a share of fourth place - staying on course for a return trip to the Final Four.

Nigerian Prince Eze was at his usual best with 16 points and 13 rebounds as the other guys stepped up for the Altas.

AJ Coronel also produced a double-double effort of 22 points and 11 rebounds while rookie Jielo Razon, who was not fielded in the sensational stunner over Lyceum of the Philippines University, scored a career-high 21 points.

Coronel, who only averaged 8.9 points this season, caught fire in the first period, scoring 15 points a perfect 6 of 6 from the field.

Earlier,  Letran turned to its bench to topple Emilio Aguinaldo College, 91-82, and solidify its hold of the No. 3 spot.

Koy Galvelo scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half, Jeremiah Taladua also had 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting to go with six rebounds, two steals, and two assists, while Fran Yu added 13 markers in just six minutes for the Knights.

It was an all-important victory for Letran, which rose at 9-4, as it maintained an one-game cushion over joint fourth placers College of Saint Benilde and Perpetual Help.

“Good  win for us. Pero hindi pa rin kami puwede maging complacent,” said a cautious Knights mentor Jeff Napa. “Bawal kami matalo.”
