MERALCO rallied from a 21-point deficit to bring down Talk N Text, 88-77, and barge into the win column in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Chris Newsome finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Amer added 17 points and Jared Dillinger had 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Bolts, who improved to .500 with two wins against two losses.
Nico Salva and Ranidel de Ocampo each had 11 points for the NormanBlack-mentored Bolts.
“We've been getting off to bad starts in this conference," said Black, whose team missed its first nine shots of the game and trailed 0-13.
But after falling behind by 21 points (9-30) early in the second quarter, the Bolts went to work on the defensive end and outscored the Tropang Texters, 33-19, in the third quarter and 25-19, in the fourth period to complete a 32-point turnaround.
So impressive was the Bolts’ defense that they limited the Texters to only two points in the first six minutes and took as much as 19-point lead, 79-60.
PBA Best Player of the Week awardee Jayson Castro topscored with 20 points while Roger Pogoy added 15 for the Texters, who dropped to 2-3.
