
Caloocan repels San Juan
CALOOCAN leaned on the heroics of Michael Jhon Perez to subdue San Juan, 86-84, in overtime in the 2018 Metro League Open basketball championship at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
Perez scored the game’s last three points, including a driving layup that put the Supremos ahead for good, 85-84, with 34 seconds left.
Perez also split his free throws with 11 second s left to finalize the score.
Perez’ heroics came after Emmanuel Elarmo and John Paul Rosopa hit back-to-back baskets to give San Juan a 84-83 lead
With the win, the Supremos moved into a three-way tie for second to fourth places in the North with similar 5-2 win-loss records.
Manila leads the way with a 7-1 slate.
M J Enriquez topscored with 28 points for the Supremos of coach Rensy Bajar and Mayor Oca Malapitan.
Perez added a double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds and Johnnel Rey Bauzon and Kristoffer Torrado contributed eight points apiece.
Andrei Simoun Dada led San Juan’s losing effort with 23 points on 3-of-10 in three-point arc.
Dada also made the game-tying three-pointer with 2.0 seconds left thatsent the game into overtime.
Rosopa had 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Overshadowed by Caloocan’s win was Pateros, which survived Marikina, 89-87.
Rickson Gerero flirted with a triple double with 26 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Pateros.
