Chiang Kai Shek bags first semis berth

CHIANG Kai Shek College clobbered Philippine Cultural College, 111-81, to clinch the first outright semis berth in the Tanduay Athletics- Metro Manila Tiong Lian alumni 40 years old and above tounament at the Tanduay gym last Friday.

Gilbert Chan scattered 23 points, including five triples, and Chiang Kai Shek used a balanced scoring attack to roll back PCC and clinch top seed with a 7-1 win-loss record in this nine-team tournament sponsored by Tanduay Athletics.

Paul Austria  finished with 18 points, Kim Ho Hui added 17 points, Brian Ngo contributed 16, Eric Ang had 14 and Edbing Santos had 11 for Chiang Kai Shek, which outscored PCC, 65-25, in the middle quarters to turn the game into a rout.

So dominant was Chiang Kai that it established  as many as 43- point lead, 94-51, on a layup by Kerwan Mas with 7:53 left.

Richard Rondael led the way with 25 points,  nine rebounds and seven assists for PCC, which played with only nine players.

Arthur Go added 18 points and Jowelle Domingo had 16 for PCC,  which wound up winless in eight games.

Jubilee leaned  on Jeffrey  Goh's 31 points,  including five pressure-packed free throws in the final 1:30, to escape with the much--needed win.

Goh’s heroics from the free throw line came after Bong Tan of St. Jude stole the ball and drove for a tie the score for the last time at 78-all with 2:05 left.

Jubilee, however,  countered with five unanswered points to put the game away.

Goh had 31 points and 13 rebounds in only 23 minutes of action for Jubilee,  which climbed to solo third with a 5-3 slate.

Louie Kaw matched Goh's 31 points and added six points and five rebounds for St. Jude, which bowed out of contention with a 3-5 record.

The tournament is organized by MMTL president Christian Tan.
