Dragons continue to make mark
DILIMAN College again proved unstoppable even against a more-established team in local collegiate basketball.
This time, Diliman College did it in Father Martin’s Cup basketball championship.
Led by veteran Joseph Brutas and handled by multi-titled coach Rensy Bajar, the Blue Dragons went full throttle to roll back NCAA member Arellano University, 91-66, at the San Beda University gym in Manila last Sept.23.
Brutas topscored with 21 points for the Diliman, Quezon City-based Dragons, who were never seriously threatened by the Chiefs.
“Praise God for another victory for our team,” said Bajar, also the first assistant coach of PBA legend Pido Jarencio in NorthPort Batang Pier in the PBA.
Bajar only had good words for the team.
“Hard work and team work are the two most important words for the team. The players have shown they are willing to sacrifice and follow them for the good of the team,” added Bajar.
Aside from the Fr. Martin's Cup, the Dragons are also competing in the 2018 UCBL tournament.
The Dragons opened their campaign in the said tournament with a record 126-71 win over newcomer St. Joseph College.
Kevin Gandjeto, John Mahari and McArthur Enriquez shared scoring honor in Diliman's smashing 55-point victory.
The PBA player-turned-coach/athletic director again shared the team’s success to Diliman College president Sen. Nikki Coseteng, team manager Jerome Ngo, Wilson Sia and James Ngo of Gerrys Grill for their continued support.
