DILIMAN College continued its rise in collegiate basketball.
The Blue Dragons turned to veterans Joseph Brutas and MJ Enriquez to roll back San Beda University, 91-71, and arrange a title showdown against Letran College in the Fr. Martin Cup basketball tournament at the San Beda gym in Mendiola.
Brutas mocked all defenders to score 23 points for the Quezon City-based Blue Dragons, who have earned a reputation for having beaten top UAAP and NCAA teams in various collegiate leagues.
Enriquez added 19 points
“From one NCAA team ( San Beda) in the semis to another (Letran) in the final. This is a good challenge for the team,” said Diliman coach Rensy Bajar.
“It’s a good opportunity for my players to show their wares and see how they would fare against another strong team like Letran,” added Bajar, who is mainly responsible for Diliman’s meteoric rise in the collegiate basketball scene.
But Bajar, the former player-turned-coach, was quick to share the success to Diliman College president and former Sen. Nikki Coseteng and Jerome Ngo and Wilson Sia of Gerry's Grill.
“The all-out support of Sen. Coseteng and the Diliman College community as well as of our team managers Mr. Ngo and Mr. Sia are serving as inspiration to the team,” stressed Bajar.
Aside from the Fr. Martin Cup, Diliman College is also one of the leading teams in the UCBL.
