The Elasto Painters meet the Elite in the main offering at 7 p.m. after the 4:30 p.m. encounter between the KaTropa and the Bolts in a pair of interesting games as the young season returns to the Cuneta Astrodome.
Interestingly, the Elasto Painters and the Elite had contrasting fates in the season-ending Governors’ Cup last season. The Elite managed to win seven of their 11 games to make the playoff round, while the Painters were eliminated after winning just three of 11 games.
Here in the kickoff conference of the 2019 season, the Painters are off to a good start, winning their first two outings, including their big victory over Barangay Ginebra in Calasiao, Pangasinan last Saturday.
It was a victory that saw Gabe Norwood strike for the big plays highlighting a late charge that eventually carried the Painters past the Gin Kings, 83-80.
The high-leaping Norwood, who was silent for three quarters, cut loose with six points when the game was on the line, and came up with one big block and crucial defensive rebound that broke the hearts of the Gin Kings who tumbled to their second loss in three games.
Now, the Painters will be gunning for their third straight win which will give them a share of the lead with Phoenix Pulse, which is unbeaten in three games.
On the other hand, the Elite have dropped their first two games, losing to Meralco, 99-94, last January 19, and to NorthPort, 117-91, last January 16.
Meanwhile, Talk ‘N Text tries to sustain its hot streak that followed a 0-2 start, looking to nail its third straight win but will have to deal with the Bolts who are seeking to bounce back from a 105-93 loss they suffered at the hands of San Miguel Beer last January 25.
TNT is coming into the game buoyed by its first victory over the Beermen in nine meetings.
The Ka Tropa stunned the Beermen, 104-93, last Sunday, in a victory where Jason Castro scored 24 points that went with 11 assists, five rebounds and four steals.
The Bolts are also toting a 1-2 slate, their lone victory coming at the expense of the Elite whom they defeated, 99-94, last January 19.
