
Easy win for Slashers
BINANGONAN relied on the game-long brilliance of Ernest Oduca and Miguel Agulto to roll back Pasigueno, 104-89, for a winning start in the Community Basketball Association (CBA) Founder’s Cup at the Binangonan Recreation and Conference Center at the Manila East Road in Binangonan, Rizal.
Oduca scattered 24 points, including three rainbow shots, and Agulto came up with a double double of 18 points and 16 rebounds for Binangonan.
Two other players Filepe Chavez and Ivan Cuyong – also had double-digit scores for the Slashers, who led by as many as 17 points.
Joshua Diaz, Jerome Clarences, Jonathan Boholano, Francis Ronquillo and Rorot Pinili combined for 63 points for Pasigueno, which debuted with a 79-65 win over Rizaba.
Overall, Binangonan made 39 of 82 shots for 47 perent compared to Pasigueno’s 31-of 71 for 43 percent.
The Slashers also had more rebounds, 49-43, that led to more second-chance points, 19-5.
They also had more points in the paints, 52-34, and points from turnovers, 28-15.
Pasigueno, however, had more fastbreak points, 17-12.
Last week, San Juan overpowered Malabon, 103-74, and Pasigueno subdued Rizaba, 79-65, to launch their campaigns in style.
John Acol and Noah Lugo provided the 1-2 punch for San Juan as they combined for 41 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the Knights’ wire-to-wire victory in their debut.
Acol finished with 22 points, including 6-of-9 shooting from the three-point area, while Lugo added 19 points for San Juan, which outscored Malabon, 64-37, in the second half.
