FOILED the last time out, Adamson tries to formalize its Final Four entry while La Salle seeks to keep the top two teams within reach today in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Falcons try to get back on the winning track against University of Santo Tomas at 2 p.m., while the Green Archers shoot for third straight victory opposite National University at 4 p.m.
One game is separating Adamson (8-3) and La Salle (7-4), as the two teams are locked in a tight battle for the second twice-to-beat slot in the semifinals.
Defending champion Ateneo, sporting a league-best 10-2 card, has already been assured of at least a playoff for one of the semifinals bonus at stake.
The Falcons got their Final Four march derailed by the Blue Eagles, having been caught in an off-day in last Sunday’s 48-62 loss.
“We’re not even sure of everything. We just have to do our own job. We cannot rely on other teams beating the other school for us to be assured,” said Adamson coach Franz Pumaren.
The Falcons have already felt the playoff atmosphere.
“Tonight’s game is a testament that the playoffs started tonight. Atmosphere was different, the intensity was different,” said Pumaren, referring to their showdown with Ateneo that was dubbed as a potential Finals preview.
The Archers played their best game of the season, tearing the Growling Tigers to shreds, 110-69, last Saturday.
