Fatima, St. Clare in final
IT will be a rematch between defending champion Our Lady of Fatima University and St. Clare College-Caloocan in the final of the NAASCU Season 18 junior basketball tournament.
Fatima rode on Gervin Compas’ game-winning basket as time expired to beat Arandia College, 104-102, in overtime while St.Clare leaned on big games of Stephen Catacutan and Cedrick Mwamba to subdue AMA University, 75-69, to set the stage for the rematch.
The best-of-three title showdown between the Junior Phoenix and the Baby Saints will begin on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City.
Compas’ heroics came after Don Marlon Querido of Arandia and Danfel Gomez of St.Clare missed their desperation shots.
Compas, however, came from nowhere to follow-up the corner three-point miss by Gomez that beat the buzzer.
Before the winning sequence for Fatima, Justine Guevarra of Arandia tied the score for the last time at 102-all with still 2:25 remaining.
Querido himself forced the overtime for Arandia with still 31 seconds left in regulation, 95-all.
Panganiban topscored for Fatima with a double double of 34 points and 15 rebounds while Compas added 21 points and Bernos contributed 14.
