NORTH division champion Valenzuela is one win away from winning the 2018 Metro League Open basketball tournament crown.
Valenzuela drew big games from Dan Natividad, Ford Ruaya and veteran Erwin Sta. Maria to pull off a masterful 91-78 win over South Division titlist Taguig in Game 1 of the finals at the Valenzuela Astrodome last Thursday.
The Workhorses can wrap up the best-of-three title series with another victory in Game 2 on Saturday (Nov. 24) at the Valenzuela Astrodome.
Natividad finished with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists, Ruaya contributed 17 points and Sta. Maria had 11 points and six boards to power the Workhorses to victory over the Generals in this tournament organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Kevin Oliveria led Taguig with 17 points and five rebounds, while Jerry Lumungsod added 16 points and five rebounds in the two-month long competition which has Mobile App ng Bayan Barangay 143 as presentor, my|phone “Bida ang Pinoy” as official mobile phone, Spalding as official ball, and Synergy 88 as major sponsors.
