
Jr. Capitals, Green Berets in big wins
QUEZON City completed a dramatic comeback from a 20-point deficit to beat Taguig, 76-74, and improve to 6-2 win-loss record in Metro League Basketball Championship at the Hagonoy gym in Taguig.
Jefferson Comia fired 22 points on a 8-of-14 shooting, Cyrus Tabi added 12 points and John Mahari contributed nine points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Junior Capitals, who outscored the Generals, 35-14, in the fourth and payoff period to ecape with the win in the tournament organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Ex-PBA star John Ferriols led the Generals with 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Dave Dela Virgen had 11 markers, six rebounds and two assists in the defeat.
Overshadowed by Quezon City’s win was Parañaque, which toppled Manila, 80-62, to finish with a 3-6 win-loss record in this event which has “mobile app ng bayan” Barangay 143 as presentor, Spalding as the official ball and Team Rebel Sports as official outfitter.
Raffy Gusi led the Green Berets with 24 points and five rebounds, followed by Erwin Encela with a double-double performance of 17 markers and 11 boards and Oliver Villareal with 12 nd 10.
Kenneth Acibar finished with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists while Mark Christian Yu had 11 points and four rebounds for Manila, which dropped to 7-2 which also has Synergy 88, San Miguel Corp., World Balance, Frabelle Foods, Summit Mineral Water, Alco Plus, Gerry’s Grill, Excellent Noodles, glitter.ph, SM Supermalls and Nature’s Spring as major sponsors.
