
Manila downs Taguig
MANILA leaned on the 1-2 punch of ex-PBA star Joseph Yeo and Jay Mark Mallari to bring down Taguig, 107-90, for its third win in four matches in the Metro League basketball championships at the Paranaque Sports Complex.
Yeo, easily one of the more popular players in the 10-team, tournament, came through with a double-double effort of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the All Stars to victory.
Mallari ably supported Yeo with 17 points, four assists and two rebounds in the win.
Manila also got big numbers from Almel Orquina (14 points), Jayford Rodriguez (12 points, nine rebounds), Mark Yu (11 points) and Paolo Quiminales (10 points, six rebounds).
Marlon Monte carried the fight for Taguig with 21 points and four assists, while Richard Albo added 18 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
A total of 10 cities divided into two groups -- North and South -- are seeing action in the event which has “mobile app ng bayan” Barangay 143 as presentor, Spalding as the official ball, Team Rebel Sports as official outfitter and Synergy 88, San Miguel Corp., World Balance, Frabelle Foods, Summit Mineral Water, Alco Plus, Gerry’s Grill, Excellent Noodles, glitter.ph, SM Supermalls and Nature’s Spring as major sponsors.
PBA legend Glenn Capacio is the commissioner while Lou Gatumbato is the technical head.
